AUCHENBRACK COTTAGES

Auchenbrack, ‘The field of the dappled light’ in Celtic, is a picturesque farming estate in Dumfriesshire about 9 miles from the Buccleuch and Queensberry Arms Hotel at Thornhill. The estate comprises some 800 acres of hill and in bye land, drained by the Shinnell Burn which feeds the River Nith that eventually flows into the Solway Firth. The area has been inhabited and farmed since the Iron Age and was more recently owned by the Gaskell family descendants of the Authoress Mrs Gaskell.

The BQA Hotel is delighted to be able to offer self catering accommodation in its four individually decorated and modernised two, three, and four bedroom cottages. While Auchenbrack farmhouse, with its 9 bedrooms, can be made available by special arrangement with the Sweerts de Landas family.

HIGH AUCHENBRACK

High Auchenbrack is an unspoilt, modernised one hundred- and fifty-year-old charming farm labourer’s cottage. It lies in a sunny position nestled in the Dumfriesshire hills with fabulous views towards Thistlemark Hill with the Shinnell Burn across the fields.

The accommodation comprises a hallway, sitting room with wood burning stove, two double bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom outside there is a pretty fenced garden with a picnic table. Parking is available both in front and to the rear of the property.

KILNMARK BOTHY

Kilnmark Bothy and steading is set in the same grounds as the Farmhouse, thus enjoying the same stunning views.

The property comprises a boot room which leads through to the old steading, a fabulous double height oak beamed hall that houses the kitchen, spacious dining area and sitting room that has a wood burning stove as a focal point at the far end.
Passing through the kitchen, one comes into a sun room that joins the steading to the old bothy, which houses a large double height bedroom with wood burning stove, the family bathroom, a further double bedroom, and finally onto the double height master suite that comprises bedroom, shower room, and dressing room at the end of the corridor.

There is a lawned area to enjoy the fabulous outlook to the front of the property with a picnic table and private parking to the side.

KILNMARK FARMHOUSE

Kilnmark Farmhouse sits in a majestic position overlooking the Shinnell Glen with fabulous views of the ice-age corrie that is now known as Keb Hill, the summit of which stands 1500 feet above sea level.

The ground floor of the property comprises a boot room, kitchen, sitting room with wood burning stove, a double bedroom, the master suite and a family bathroom. There are two further double bedrooms in the eves. Outside lies a courtyard garden surrounded by the barns and Bothy that were once the beating heart of the farm.

PRINCE’S COTTAGE

Princes’s Cottage has fabulous westerly views, it was once the home of the Prince family who were the Shepherds at Auchenbrack for many years. The house sits set back from the road and is surrounded by stone dykes to the front and sides.

The ground floor comprises a boot room, kitchen, sitting room, with wood burning stove, master bedroom and dining room. Upstairs in the eves there are a good size bedroom and a smaller double bedroom. The large enclosed garden has off street parking and picnic table.
